Ontario tax credits and benefits - 2010

Even if you owe no incom tax, you could get money back by claiming a number of tax credits and benefits in Ontario. Here are some of these credits for 2010.

 Ontario sales tax trasition credit

  • 3 payments totaling up to $1,000 for familiies and $300 if you are single.
  • file 2009 tax return by April 30, 2011 to get the first two payments
  • file 2010 tax return by April 30, 2012 to get the final payment

Ontario sales tax credit

  • up to $260 for each family member (reduced by 4% of income over $20,000 for singles and $25,000 for families)
  • file 2010 tax return to get this money

Children's activity tax credit

  • up to $50 for each child under 16 or $100 for each chilld with a disability under 18.
  • Activities include music lessons, painting classes, soccer, hockey, etc.
  • file 2010 tax return and keep receipts to get this money.

Ontario Child Benefit

  • up to $1,100 per year for each child under 18.
  • have registered your child for federal Canada Child Tax Benefit
  • file your 2010 tax return to get this money

Ontario Senior Homeowers' Property Tax Grant

  • up to $500
  • 64 or oder
  • owner a home
  • file your 2010 tax return to get this money

 Guaranteed Annual Income System

  • up to $996
  • 65 or older
  • monthly payment
  • file your 2010 tax return to receive this benefit

Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit

  • up to $900 ($1,025 for quailifying seniors)
  • be 18 years or older
  • pay rent or property tax
  • report the amount of rent or property tax in your 2010 tax return
