Employment expenses

Most employees cannot claim employment expenses. However, you can deduct certain expenses you paid to earn employment income if your employment contract requires you to pay the expenses.

Employment expenses for salaried employees include travel expenses, supplies, allowable motor vehicle expenses, etc.

Additional deductions such as advertising and promotion are available for commission-based employees.

Employers must complete Form T2200 - Declaration of conditions of Employment to legitimize these deductions.

Employees claiming expenses on their tax returns may be entitled to claim a refund for the business use portion of the GST paid.

Certain members of the clergy or religious organizations may be entitled to deduct an amount paid for living accommodation.

At Proccounting, our tax specialist will help you file your employment expenses claim and advise you on organizing proper forms and records to support your claim and prevent any hastle in case CRA audits you.
